If you read our last article on seed variety, you know that we have consistently been studying the proper ways in which each seed needs to be planted, and when the best time to plant is. Along with this, we have decided to try some germination for specific plants in 2025 to increase the garden output and chances of success.

What is germination?

The process in which a seed goes from a seed, to a seedling. Seeds need optimal temperature, oxygen, and water to produce the process we are looking for. Germinating them inside before the season can help.

With the zucchini, squash, and cucumber we have planted, we have had general luck planting them in mid May and seeing multiple sessions of harvest through mid July, late July, and early August. In 2024 we have tested how other produce respond to the compost we use, certain levels of sunlight, and if they need special care besides just being seeded in the ground. We realized that other produce is not as low maintenance as cucumber, zucchini, and squash.

This year in 2025, we will be attempting to germinate some of the tougher produce inside for a few weeks and then planting them in the ground, for. higher chance of fruition towards the mid summer. To see that process as we go, check out our social media on Tik Tok, Youtube, and Linkedin.
